As one way of marking Respect Life Sunday, Oct. 2, the Washington State Catholic Conference and the Archdiocese are helping to sponsor “Faith and the Abolition of the Death Penalty: Charting a New Course.” The forum will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 2650 148th Avenue SE, Bellevue. Commenting on the recent U.S. poverty report, USCCB president Archbishop Timothy Dolan wrote, “In our Catholic parishes, schools, charities, hospitals and other ministries, the poor, the underemployed and the unemployed are not issues, but people with names and faces. This fall marks the 25th anniversary of the U.S. bishops pastoral letter, Economic Justice for All. Attached is a collection of excerpts from the pastoral and a table that compares key economic indicators between what they were in 1986 and 2011.
