The Special Education Technology Center has invited Gayl Bowser to present this spring.
She will be offering information on:
Integrating Accessible Instructional Materials (AIM)
in Classrooms and Districts
This all day event will be offered in Washington on two dates.
In Federal Way on March 6, 2012 and also in Spokane on March 7, 2012.
In this workshop, we’ll start with an overview of AIM and then work with key concepts for integration of AIM into classroom settings. The session will also highlight key actions that can be taken at the district level when developing and supporting high quality AIM services.
After an IEP team determines that a student with disabilities needs accessible instructional materials (AIM) and chooses the tools that a student will need for access to core curriculum materials, the work has only begun. Implementation planning, inclusion strategies and evaluation of the effectiveness of AIM are essential if it is to become an integral part of student learning.
District-wide involvement is also essential for development of quality AIM services and many activities in the selection, acquisition and use of AIM can only be addressed by changes initiated at a school or district level. Administrators and program specialists have a significant role to play in establishing systems, ensuring availability of materials in specialized formats and in overcoming barriers to the provision of AIM. Success will come when AIM concepts and ideas are integrated into systems of curriculum, instruction, technology acquisition and supports for students.
What should teachers and school districts do to ensure that individuals who require AIM have full access to classroom activities and learning opportunities? We’ll share ideas and stories and practice them together with a focus on improving school-wide conditions for successful AIM-based learning.
A total of 6 clock hours are offered for this event.
The registration fee is $115 per participant.
Refreshments and lunch are provided as part of the registration fee.
