    Monday of Holy Week

Dear Priests, Pastoral Coordinators, and liturgical ministers,

All of us are deeply saddened by the constant news of millions around the world being killed because of their Christian faith just in the first few years of this 21st century alone. With a large rise in the world's population living in countries with restrictions on freedom of religion, Christians all over the world are suffering; as members of the body of Christ, we must be advocates of Christians persecuted for their faith around the world through prayer and intercession on their behalf.

There are certain times when the diocesan bishop may ask that all parishes include a special intention in the intercessory prayers during the Celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday.

Archbishop Sartain asks that parishes in the Archdiocese of Seattle include the following intention following number 9 and before the final Solemn Intercession at Good Friday's Celebration of the Passion of the Lord.

Chant notations will soon be available for the following intercession on the Liturgy Office website.

We pray you have a blessed Holy Week as we prepare for the coming Paschal celebrations!

Let us pray also for those persecuted for their belief in Christ,
especially those in that Holy Land where first they bore the name 'Christian,'
that our God and Lord may strengthen them who bear the cross of tribulation.

Almighty ever-living God, who in your inscrutable providence
will that the Church be united to the sufferings of your Son,
grant, we pray, to your faithful who suffer for your name's sake
a spirit of patience and charity,
that they may be found true and faithful witnesses
to the promises they have made.
    Through Christ our Lord.
