For the first time, Saint Martin’s University will be awarding renewable, four-year, full-tuition scholarships starting in the fall 2016 semester to high school seniors who have demonstrated need and are graduating from a Catholic high school in Washington State.
“Saint Martin’s University is committed to providing an outstanding Catholic education that is also affordable,” says University President Roy F. Heynderickx, Ph.D., who spearheaded the effort to establish the Abbot Oswald Baran, O.S.B., and Abbot Neal Roth, O.S.B. Scholarships. The scholarships are named for the University’s first and current abbots and chancellors.
“We know that cost can be a barrier to many students who are interested in pursuing a private, values-based college experience and we want to help support those students,” Heynderickx adds.
Catholic high schools have until January 15, 2016 to nominate students for the scholarships, which will be renewable for all four years of enrollment at Saint Martin’s, provided the student maintains minimum standards. Students can also self-nominate but will be required to obtain and submit a letter of support from their school. In addition, students will fill out an application for admission to Saint Martin’s University.
The nominations will be based on Saint Martin’s four core values of faith, reason, community and service, and a student can be nominated in any of these areas. Finalists have until February 15, 2016 to apply. Applicants are required to fill out the FAFSA or WAFSA (for DACA students) to determine eligibility for a need-based scholarship.
Interviews of applicants will be held during March and recipients will be announced by May 1.
