Office for Catholic Schools - High School Department Chair Leadership Initiative

High School Department Chairs play an important role in ensuring that teachers of all subject areas utilize high quality teaching practices and follow rigorous, vertically aligned, data-informed curricula. The HS Department Chair Leadership Initiative will help department chairs and principals observe, analyze, and provide feedback to teachers based on the qualitative data and assessment data they collect. The initiative, facilitated by the University of Washington Center for Educational Leadership, will include the following sessions:

Session	Participants	Learning Outcome
Opening One-Day Learning Institute August 17, 2017	All Department Chairs and High School Principals	Learn the key concepts of teacher leadership along with key practices, including observation and analysis of instruction, and use of data.
Learning Walks Dates TBD	Two Learning Walks for Humanities Department Chairs Two Learning Walks for STEM Department Chairs Principals also welcome to attend	Deepen understanding of what constitutes high-quality instruction and the role teacher leaders play in improving teacher practice.
Final One-Day Institute Date TBD	All Department Chairs and High School Principals	Share learning and plan for the 2018- 2019 school year.
