What is MDI? The Missionary Discipleship Institute (MDI) consists of three units—aligned with our Archdiocesan Religion Standards—to provide a framework for students to encounter the lives of their neighbors on the margins and the injustices that they face; reflect on how the Church responds in love and the disturbance this creates in our own sense of discipleship; and discern, develop, and carry out a missionary response. Throughout the year, students engage in a local immersion experience, research issues currently prevalent in our world, and are empowered to take hopeful Christian action. A commitment to these three units could serve as your core 7th grade religion curriculum for the school year.
We are now recruiting for the next group of 7th grade classrooms to participate in the Missionary Discipleship Institute for the 2017 - 2018 school year. Please see letter below for details to see if your school is ready for MDI!
Additional Resources: A great end-of-the-year wrap up: Pope Francis did a TED talk, largely incorporates “Who is My Neighbor,” our call to see ourselves as a “we” and no one as “other,” and calling us to live this way into the future (a great way to send the students forth!)
MDI videos created by some of the 7th grade communities to reflect their learning:
