• Rice Bowl update - June 2010

Lent 2011 materials order: Thank you for your orders for Lent next year – we and Catholic Relief Services appreciate your help so that we can prepare with stewardship the right amount of supplies as needed by your communities! We have not heard back from some of you: your orders will remain the same as for 2010. (If anyone needs extra supplies next Lent – we’ll have them for you.)

Rice Bowl Grants: With approval from Archbishop Brunett, on June 24 we sent out checks for 184 grants to programs in western Washington, thanks in large part to your support and promotion of the Rice Bowl program in your communities. The list of grantees can be found at our website.

Featured Countries for Rice Bowl in 2011 (some parish staff and school faculty might want this info to prepare for next year):
Week 1: Haiti - Food Security
    Week 2: Senegal - Microfinance
    Week 3: Indonesia - Agriculture / Water
    Week 4: Honduras - Health
    Week 5: Kenya - Education
Week 6: (United States) the national materials will feature a project in a U.S. diocese. You can also draw from a list of Rice Bowl grantees in this archdiocese - maybe in your local community - for bulletins and web sites. Perhaps bring in a speaker from, or have a class or group visit, the grantee’s site?

Again, thank you for your solidarity with sisters and brothers here and beyond our borders.

"The principle of solidarity reminds us that as members of one human family, we see every ‘other’ as our neighbor, who must share in the banquet of life to which all are equally invited by God.” (A Place at the Table, U.S. Bishops)
