Dear Principals:
On behalf of the High School Choir Directors and Bishop Joseph Tyson, I would like to invite your music teachers and anyone else in your schools who prepare music with children to a wonderful opportunity for professional development! The Catholic High School Choir directors are having an in-service with the incomparable Alice Parker, and we would like to share her with all of you, too! I want to share a portion of Ms. Parker’s bio with you, in case you are not familiar with her work:
Her life-work has been in choral and vocal music, combining composing, conducting and teaching in a creative balance. Her arrangements with Robert Shaw of folksongs, hymns and spirituals form an enduring repertoire for choruses all around the world. She continues composing in many forms, from operas to cantata, sacred anthems to secular dances, song cycles to string quartets. She has been commissioned by such groups as the Vancouver Chamber Chorus, the Atlanta Symphony Chorus and Chanticleer. Her many conducting and teaching engagements keep her traveling around the United States and Canada.
Alice Parker is undeniably one of the great women of American music! If you are interested in having your music specialists or anyone on your staff who prepares music with children learn more about her before they attend the workshop you can all find her at www.melodiousaccord.org . We would like to offer your teachers a choice of 2 days of in-service on November 9th or November 10th. The in-service will take place at Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bellevue, Washington, and run from 9 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. each day. This in-service is a gift to all of your music teachers from Bishop Tyson and the High School Choir Festival in recognition of the loving work they do with children in the discipline of music. Clock hours may be purchased for the in-service and lunch will also be available for purchase on the day of the event.
Please ask your participating teachers to register for the Alice Parker In-service by filling out the attached form and returning it by October 20th to:
