Pope Benedict XVI talked about the “great problems of injustice” throughout the world and called for “courageous action to be taken without delay” (Charity in Truth, 20). Please take time to respond to the following USCCB Action Alert to protect the poor and vulnerable. And ask others in your parish to respond as well.
Thank you,

USCCB Action Alert to protect the poor and vulnerable
| Dear Colleagues, U.S. poverty has hit a record high, and famine continues to rage in East Africa. Please read the very important attached Action Alert asking Catholics to tell the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (The Super Committee) and members of Congress to protect and prioritize programs that serve poor and vulnerable people at home and abroad. In addition to Congress's work to pass a continuing resolution and then to finalize the budget for Fiscal Year 2012, the Super Committee has begun meeting in an attempt to reduce the federal deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next ten years. Programs that serve poor and vulnerable people at home and abroad are in danger of receiving devastating and disproportionate cuts. We encourage you to forward this message to your colleagues and other networks. Thank you for helping advocate on behalf of poor and vulnerable persons at home and abroad!
