Dear Life, Justice and Peace Contacts,
With the legislature poised to cut another $2 billion from the state budget, Catholic Advocacy Day 2012 will be especially important for we who are called to advocate on behalf of the poor and vulnerable. Many vital social services face elimination.
Highlights – Change in location – The event has gotten so large we are moving it to St. Michael parish in Olympia. For those arriving early, there will be 8:30 a.m. Mass celebrated by Archbishop Peter Sartain who will also give the keynote presentation. Finally, to enable more people to participate, there will be a bus leaving from Bellevue (in addition to the two serving Seattle and Tacoma).
Please note that those riding on the chartered busses will not arrive at St. Michael’s in time for Mass.
Organizing Tool – (attached) This resource lays out five easy steps you can take to invite more people from your parish to participate in Catholic Advocacy Day.
Promotional Flyer/Insert – (attached) Post it at church entrances or use it as an insert in the parish bulletin.
Bulletin Announcement – With or without the flyer/insert, please ask your parish to run the following announcement in your parish bulletin on January 8 and January 15.
Catholic Advocacy Day – February 15
All parish members are invited to participate in Catholic Advocacy Day – an annual event to ensure that the Gospel message to care for our brothers and sisters is carried to our legislators. Come to the State Capitol for a program and legislative briefing before scheduled appointments with your state legislators.
Wednesday, February 15
9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Chartered busses for registered participants (departing from Seattle, Bellevue and Tacoma)
To register: Contact Intercommunity Peace and Justice Center: ipjc@ipjc.org or 206.223.1138 by January 16th.
National Migration Week, January 8-14 – “Welcoming Christ in the Migrant” is this year’s theme and more information and resources can be found on the USCCB website.
Thank you very much for all of your efforts on behalf of life, justice and peace. I hope to see many of you at the Mass for Life in January and on Catholic Advocacy Day in February.
Wishing you and your family a joyous Christmas,
Jim
