Dear Life, Justice and Peace Contacts,

There are three items I want to share with you. For more information about each, I have provided a link.

Saturday, May 19The Christian Call to End Poverty and Our Response: Charity & Justice – The spring gathering for JustFaith graduates is open to “all who stand with the poor.” Michael Reichert, the president of Catholic Community Services of Western Washington and Catholic Housing Services will be the keynote speaker. The event is intended to help participants become more effective advocates for those living in poverty. It will take place at the Isaac Orr Conference Center, 910 Marion St., Seattle, beginning at 9:00 AM and concluding by 3:30 PM.

Action Alert: NCHLA has updated its Action Alert on the Department of Health and Human Services’ contraceptive mandate. See: nchla.org/actiondisplay.asp?ID=292. The primary focus of the Action Alert is the HHS “Advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM)” published March 21 in the Federal Register 16501-8. HHS is seeking comments on how the final rule for the contraceptive mandate published February 15 can accommodate religious organizations. The ANPRM does not correct the fundamental problems in the mandate. Comments on the ANPRM are due by June 19.

New ResourceVocation of the Business Leader – The Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace recently approved the release of an attractive and useful reflection guide for business leaders: “an educational aid that speaks of the “vocation” of the business men and women who act in broad and diverse business institutions … This reflection offers business leaders, members of their institutions, and various stakeholders a set of practical principles that can guide them in their service of the common good.”

    Easter peace,
    Jim
