Continuing Education for Catholic School Teachers - Illume

Illume has developed a Catholic Heritage and Teaching Excellence Series, inspiring excellence and professional development for teachers in Catholic schools. There are three seminars (Rome, Israel and Turkey/Greece).

We invite leaders of Catholic schools to offer such a seminar as a continuing education opportunity for their teachers. Costs are either born by individual participants or can be subsidized by the local school, parish or diocese.

This particular seminar (Rome) explores the distinctive genius of Christianity in its early Roman context, the development of Roman Catholic practices, beliefs and institutions over the centuries, the development of Christian art, architecture and liturgy in Rome, and the contemporary issues, challenges and vision of Roman Catholicism.

Connect Catholic School Teachers with Catholic Heritage

Bring the rich heritage of Roman Catholicism to life for both Roman Catholic and non-Roman Catholic teachers in Catholic schools. Help them connect on intellectual and emotional levels to this rich history, and inspire them to share that heritage with their students.

Explore the Rise of Christianity in the Ancient World

Gain an appreciation for the unique genius and distinctive features of Christianity in the ancient world. Walk in the footsteps of early visionary men and women of faith. Learn why ancient Romans found Christianity appealing and what relevance might this continue to have in our own world.

Celebrate Artistic & Cultural Treasures of Roman Catholicism

Experience the artistic, architectural and cultural developments of Roman Catholicism – from 4^th century monumental basilicas, to dazzling mosaics in apsed churches, to the soaring dome of St. Peters and the spiritual wonder of the Sistine Chapel. Learn about the customs and traditions that developed over the centuries and the role the Church played in fostering the arts and higher education. Discuss ways to foster an appreciation for these arts in Catholic school curriculum.
