New College Board President David Coleman starts Oct. 15
The College Board Trustees selected David Coleman, widely recognized as an architect of the Common Core State Standards adopted by 45 states, as their new President. With degrees from Yale, Oxford, and Cambridge, he is a Founding Partner of Student Achievement Partners, a nonprofit organization devoted to the successful implementation of the Standards, where he leads the organization’s work with teachers and policymakers to achieve the promise of the Common Core to improve education.
''We have a crisis in education, and over the next few years, the main thing on the College Board's agenda is to deliver its social mission,'' David Coleman told the New York Times. ''The College Board is not just about measuring and testing, but designing high-quality curriculum.''

The Chronicle of Higher Education observed on May 16:
Now, Mr. Coleman is poised to lead the College Board, one of the most powerful forces in American education. His appointment could bring further changes to the nonprofit organization's best-known product—the SAT—and its wide blanket of other programs.

In recent months, Coleman, a 42-year-old former Rhodes Scholar and McKinsey & Company consultant, has traveled throughout the nation, speaking to K-12 teachers to advocate for the standards. The College Board played an active role in the development of the Common Core.

    Speaking of Common Core
Common Core formed the focal point for a symposium of south King County schools. Check out the presentations including Smarter Balance Joe Willhoft’s and Josh Garcia’s explication of building a college going culture: http://www.ccedresults.org/the-proje...ect-downloads/
    College Board Advocacy—fighting for you
This year, the College Board spent almost $53 million to grant fee waivers and subsidies to low-income students to take the SAT and the Advanced Placement tests, pumped $33 million into providing free services to teachers, students, and their families about college planning and research, and spent $8.7 million on advocacy efforts to press for college access, affordability and financial aid. (And don’t forget the PSAT fee waivers.)
