In a letter of support following a late May meeting, Archbishop Sartain wrote: “Efforts to explore ways in which Catholic education can be furthered in the Archdiocese will always have my support and blessing…. Please know that you have my blessing to continue the discernment through your study and collaboration with (Archdiocese Schools Office, Seattle University, Fulcrum Foundation and Oregon Province of Society of Jesus).”
The Seattle Nativity School will serve exclusively low-income families through a rigorous faith-based, extended-day, extended-year wraparound education. In particular, the Seattle Nativity School will be a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) school. Integrating real life applications of science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on projects will provide students with 21st Century skills such as problem solving, collaboration and communication while also opening up potential future career paths. Moreover, “experts in residence” (ERs) will answer questions during the investigation process, present context for core knowledge and career paths, and act as review panels for student presentations.
As the SNS transitions to a Board structure and builds its programs in preparation for what we hope will be a September 2013 opening, we are looking for some passionate, capable and experienced educators to help with our four Curriculum Design Teams (CDTs) including STEM, humanities, religion and arts. If you have any faculty members who are interested, please have them email SNS’ Executive Director, Renee Willette, rwillette@seattlenativity.org.
If you would like to learn more about Seattle Nativity’s mission, programs and people as well as our efforts to bring Seattle Nativity to life in 2013 please visit our website: www.seattlenativity.org.
