Local agent comment: Last year, we had one school from the Seattle Archdiocese compete (Seattle’s St. Joe’s if you’re interested).
I am told that there were so many good entrants last year that they ended up adding 5 $500 consolation prizes.
If everything I have been told is correct 8 of 40 schools won something. I would love to see some of that prize money awarded to one of our schools!
Is there anything I can do to get the word out to the schools?
Thank-you!

National News Release
The success of the first Safety in the School Contest was overwhelming! Because of this success, Catholic Mutual is pleased to be able to again offer to our membership schools, an opportunity for students to learn about being safe in their everyday lives and a chance to win a monetary award for their efforts.
There are only two changes to the rules this year; one is the requirement that if any copyrighted material is used in the presentations, written permission must be obtained and included with their submission in order to be considered. The other change is no web-based submissions to the contest. Entries can be presented in electronic format or hard copy, but must not require Catholic Mutual to access the web to review the presentation. This is not to say your schools cannot place their entry on their website, but due to format and access difficulties, web-based submissions will not be accepted. Students, teachers, administrators and parents are invited to assist in this creative process with the emphasis based on the ideas of the students. All Catholic Mutual members with elementary schools (Pre-K through 8th grade) are invited to participate in this national contest. Only one entry per school.
The national winner will receive the grand prize of $10,000. This can be used in whatever manner chosen for your school. Several additional prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries and the substance of the presentations. We would also like to place the winning entries on Catholic Mutual’s website for other members to see, with the school’s permission.
We again encourage your Arch/Diocese to consider offering an additional incentive to each of your schools to further support and promote safety. Some examples of this may include: matching the amount won by the school if chosen among the national winners, providing trophies/awards to each of your participating schools, offering to provide a pizza party, etc.
Attached you will find more detailed information that can be distributed to your schools. If you would like Catholic Mutual to distribute this information on your behalf, please send us the email addresses of each of your schools as soon as possible.
Our goal is to have students and staff enjoy participating in this contest and in the process, learn more about making sound and safe decisions they will carry with them into the future.
