In 2010, the U.S. Census Bureau changed the standards for classification of federal data pertaining to race and ethnicity. Race and ethnicity are to be reported as separate and distinct identities.
During the Fall 2012 NCEA data collection window, many schools realized that their ethnicity figures were different. While troubleshooting with some schools, there is a need for all schools to review their intake process and align registration or re-registration forms to the new protocol as we build consistency. We ask each school to please review all pertinent re-enrollment and admissions forms used to ensure that parents provide accurate information at time of registration to self-identify their ethnicity and race. We hope this can be reviewed BEFORE active re-enrollment and admissions paperwork is underway to better represent and reflect your school's demographics of your student population. Consortium schools: PowerSchool will be updated to allow this information to be recorded.
Here’s the link to the pdf version on NCEA to send to your office staff and/or admissions team to review and align your intake process.
