DEANERY - BASED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS:
North Seattle Deanery - These 5 schools will be working with the ELA Common Core with presenter Nancy Skerritt, Tahoma School District. Teachers will further explore English Language Arts (ELA) as well as look at common assessments. Attendees: Our Lady of Fatima School - host, Christ the King, St. John, Assumption - St. Bridget, and St. Matthew School, Seattle.
Northern Snohomish Deanery - These 10 schools will gain knowledge through various classes offered including: Math Common Core and ideas of how to implement them from Torrey Volk. Sr. Liz Tiernan will be taking teachers through a Lenten Presentation. Eric Downing will be working with the teachers and staff on privileges and responsibilities that come with social media. We will also have Apple (Session 1 ipads and STEM - Session 2 ipads and Literacy/Language, PowerSchool - Student Information System (Steve Deibert), and Testing/Data workshops available. Time has been allocated for grade level sharing for teachers to talk about a differentiated lesson they have used. Father Armando Guzman will be the celebrant for morning Mass. Attendees: AMHS - host, Assumption, Bellingham, ICRS, IC-OLPH, St. Michael's, Snohomish, St. Pius, St. Thomas More, Holy Rosary, Edmonds, St. Mary Magdalen, Everett, and St. Mark School, Shoreline.
Olympic Deanery - These 4 schools will experience a WebEx presentation from Apple to learn about Apple iPads and AppleTV and their potential use in the classroom, teachers will share best practices at the grade level and subject area sharing and teachers will take a CCP course: The Gospels of Matthew/Mark. Attendees: St. Cecelia School, Bainbridge Island - Host, Queen of Angels, Port Angeles, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Bremerton, and St. Nicholas School, Gig Harbor.
Pierce Deanery - These 6 schools will be hosted at St. Charles Borremeo School. Father James Eblen will the morning speaker on the Year of Faith. We hope to review (or initiate) the content and context of Vatican II. Teachers and staff will be better able to address progressive issues with students including the updated missal, re-dedication to a faith based life, and current social issues. Teachers will meet in PLC groups (subject and/or grade level) to discuss methods, successes, and concerns regarding differentiated instruction. They will be encouraged to share projects including the uses of technology and other resources. Attendees: St. Charles Borromeo - host, St. Patrick, Visitation, Holy Rosary, Tacoma, All Saints, Puyallup and St. Frances Cabrini School.
South South Deanery - 4 deanery schools will be traveling to Our Lady of Lourdes School, Vancouver, for a BrainVolution workshop. Brenda McKinney, CEO of Vancouver, WA based BrainVolution, is a developer and dynamic facilitator of workshops that teach practical thinking and learning tools for raising student achievement with the brain in mind. Her work with at-risk students and those with reading problems have made her a popular speaker at the state, regional and national level. Attendees currently -Our Lady of Lourdes School, Vancouver - host, St. Joseph School, Chehalis, St. Joseph School, Vancouver and Pacific Crest Academy, Camas.
SCHOOLS NETWORKING WITH OTHERS SCHOOLS WITH A COMMON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT THEME:
O'Dea High School, Seattle - School Law: Issues and Challenges with special consideration given to bullying/cyberbullying with Sr. Mary Angela Shaughnessy, SCN, J.D., Ph.D. (This in-service day will be opened to our Catholic high schools only - Large Isaac Orr Conference Room - The Chancery. Limited invitation.
Holy Family School, Auburn and St. Philomena School, Des Moines - Teachers will compare state standards to Common Core (math) and note differences using state standards transition document in math, align revised math focus points for each grade level and note learning gaps (due to change in standards), share: “best practice” lessons or center activities, texts, report cards, and 3 samples of student work/assessments, and create lesson(s) activities for their students.
Holy Family School, Kirkland - will be hosting MUSIC Workshop with Janet Greene, MA, the Music and Movement specialist at Oak Grove and Monte Rio Schools in Northern California,and Director of the Orff Music School in Sebastopol. Registration open to all music teachers (space limited). Please contact the school directly.
St. Anne School, Seattle - St. Monica School, Mercer Island - St. Madeleine Sophie School, Bellevue - RTI fundamentals and implementation workshop facilitated by Katherine Prudhomme Judge to gain a better understanding of the guidelines and techniques recommended for an integrated, evidence-based approach to working with struggling students. Learning the core practice of RTI and focusing on the implementation process.
INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PLANS:
Bishop Blanchet High School, Seattle - Faculty and staff will be working with staff from the Title II office to look at 1:1 technology integration and ebook options (tablet-based).
Forest Ridge Middle School and High School, Bellevue- The faculty has two second semester PD days scheduled with Ivan Hrag, Vice Principal of Academics at St. Francis Catholic High School in Sacramento.
Our Lady of Guadalupe School, Seattle - Reading Curriculum Articulation and Data Review: Teachers will identify strengths and gaps in the reading curriculum, respond to the reading testing data, create two goals related to the data and collaborate to revise the standards on the report cards to better match the standards.
Our Lady of the Lake School, Seattle - The faculty will be working on a writing assessment (DWA) developed working with their writers workshop facilitator. Teachers will be evaluating student work together using common template and deciding how to adjust their writing curriculum to better meet the needs of their students fro the remainder of the year.
Holy Family School, Lacey - Self-study work in preparation for Accreditation. Special emphasis on In-Depth Study of Language Arts - Writing.
Holy Family School, Kirkland - Teachers will adopt a school-wide template for curriculum mapping as the school takes the first step in implementing their new action plan.
Holy Family School, Seattle - The faculty and administration will be working on their self-study work in preparation for accreditation.
Holy Rosary School, West Seattle - The leadership team will be facilitating a day to gain greater familiarity with Common Core, finish re-aligning curriculum maps, creation of an I-Pad pilot group working with Math software based upon a recent presentation by Torrey Volk; garner teacher input on Language Arts textbooks for future adoption; and allow time for Department brainstorming.
Kennedy Catholic High School, Burien - As part of our SIP and accreditation recommendations, we have moved to a Modified Block scheduled for 2013-14. Two speakers,Cherlyn Pijanowski and Pat Larson, will be working with the faculty through curriculum mapping, lesson design and implementation as well as strategizing the use of BYOD technology and Blended Learning as complementary to their course outlines. This is a culminating activity to a two year action research project.
Pope John Paul II High School, Lacey - The PLC leadership will be evaluating current assessment strategies and tools for their congruency with school's learning outcomes (ISO - Grad at Graduation), generating assessments consistent with the ISO's, connecting standards based grading system with ISO's and our current grading system and, developing list of best practices for assessing and identifying specific higher order learning/skills.
Sacred Heart School, Bellevue - The faculty and staff will be using this day to increase their understanding of how the school currently uses data for decision-making within the school.
Seton Catholic High School, Vancouver - First accreditation visit is accomplished - Congratulations!!!! The administrative team will be using this day to debrief with the faculty and then work together to formulate a plan for reviewing all of our curriculum and our curricular materials, review all curricular goals per class to ensure that they meet and/or exceed all state and all standards for our Archdiocese, and produce a feedback sheet for Brother William regarding the Accreditation Process using the new Protocol (E3).
St. Alphonsus School, Seattle - Selina Innes and the leadership team will be review the current SLE's and revise them to reflect the school goals as the school preparation for their accreditation visit next year.
St. Anthony School, Renton - The faculty will be at Palisades Retreat Center for morning reflection on Year of Faith with Timothy Mullner. Afternoon time will be spent on revising math standards in light of the Math Common Core Standards - this will be facilitated by Robert Gallagher and Steve Penington.
St. Benedict School, Seattle - Principal Brian Anderson will facilitate in service time to develop new SLEs and an emerging strategic plan for the school.
St. Bernadette School, Seattle - Rudy Navarro, Fr. Michael Wright and Jody McVittie will facilitate a retreat-style gathering where teachers will reflect on how we are currently caring out our mission to teach Christian values in a Catholic-centered environment, to foster academic excellence, and to develop compassionate leaders. Fr. Mike will lead this portion of the conversation utilizing biblical passages to reflect on our profession.Staff will also engage in conversations related to Positive Discipline and how to teach students to do the right thing even when we are not looking. Seeing mistakes as opportunities to learn in a respectful and positive classroom environment.
St. Brendan School, Bothell -Teachers will have an introduction to the teacher peer coaching model and will learn the benefits of a teacher peer coaching approach in a school facilitated by Pam Schwartz. Teachers will learn and reflect on step one in our three step plan to implement this model over the next two years. The first step is self-reflection and moving on to observations in other teachers' classes.
St. Catherine School, Seattle - Facilitator Hannah Gbenro will be working with the faculty to select CCSS and Social Studies/Subject-Specific Power Standards, and begin unpacking Power Standards. Teachers will implement standards-based assessment and grading beginning in the spring of 2013 including transitioning to PowerSchool online grade book at the end of the 2012-2013 school year.
St. Edward School, Seattle - It is the year of self-study and the faculty and administration will be working in pre-assigned committees with a formal all-group presentation of accreditation committee work at the end of the day.
St. Francis of Assisi School, Seahurst - Teachers will have a clearer understanding of the CCSS by developing primary, intermediate and middle school report cards aligned with the new CCSS.
St. George School, Seattle - Faculty will work with in-house lead ELA teacher and principal to be able to write a first semester curriculum map for individual classroom ELA - curriculum based on the new Common Core Standards.
St. Joseph School, Issaquah - Atlas Curriculum mapping Software in-service
to promote faculty proficiency with the curriculum mapping templates/materials and software.
St. Joseph School, Seattle - Anni Stipek and Gwen Geivett will be facilitating two strands of PD to further training on the Singapore Math program as well as on-going training in six traits to support the literacy program.
St. Luke School, Shoreline - Understanding of new accreditation protocols prior to entering self-study the following year and a collaborative analysis of science curriculum options to determine new adoption for 2013 - 2014.
St. Mary School, Aberdeen - Using information and materials purchased through Discover Mathematics!, the faculty will work on math curriculum alignment in light of the common core standards for each grade level.
St. Michael School, Olympia - Joanne Lott will be facilitating an ITBS Analysis of data with entire faculty focusing specifically on mathematics.
St. Paul School, Seattle - TJ D'Agostino and Kelly Surapaneni, ACE Consulting, will be presenters to assist the faculty as the school investigates moving into a blended technology model.
St. Rose School, Longview - The faculty and staff will be working on self-study work in preparation for their accreditation process.
St. Therese Catholic Academy, Seattle - Theresa Hagemann and Jeff Kerscher will be facilitating accreditation and data review to support the Blended Learning curriculum.
St. Vincent de Paul School, Federal Way - RTI Training facilitated by Julia Ziagarelli, School Psychologist, Federal Way School District.
