This summer, the Pacific Alliance for Catholic Education (PACE) at the University of Portland's School of Education is hosting the inaugural Catholic School Leadership Summer Institute, to be held on the campus of the University of Portland from June 19-22, 2013.
The Summer Institute represents the launch of an annual initiative around Catholic school leadership which complements the School of Education's existing leadership programming. The institute is specifically designed to support current school leadership while encouraging the identification of next generation leaders within Catholic school communities.
Specifically, we are seeking:
Leadership teams of 2-4 per school, with an emphasis on the following breakdown:
- 1 current school leader/principal/VP/administrator
- 2-3 emerging teacher leaders (up to 3 teachers if no one fits the below category)
- 1 person who works in any or all of the following areas: marketing/development/finances/website etc.
Over the course of four days on the beautiful University of Portland campus, these small teams will collaborate with expert faculty and practitioners through interactive workshops focused on cutting edge curriculum, effective marketing and development planning. With a regional focus, the institute also offers an opportunity to build community and exchange best practices with Catholic school leaders from Oregon and Washington, as well as PACE partner schools in Alaska, Utah and northern California.
This year, the Institute is being held concurrently with the University's Garaventa Center national Catholic education conference, entitled, The Impact of Catholic Education in America: Past, Present and Future. Institute teams will attend selected sessions from the conference, including the Thursday evening keynote by Dr. Thomas Groome from the Department of Religious Education and Pastoral Ministry at Boston College, and a full slate of Friday conference workshops and events with leading figures in Catholic education. This comes at no additional cost to Institute attendees.
INSTITUTE COST: $55 per person
Included:
• All workshop sessions and materials
• Registration for selected Garaventa Center conference sessions
• All meals except Friday dinner, which will be 'on your own' in Portland
• One semester-hour of 700-level graduate credit
• On-campus housing if requested
