Dear Life, Justice and Peace Contacts:
ACTION ALERT: Use August Recess to Support Comprehensive Immigration Reform
Please call on your elected officials to pass bi-partisan immigration reform that preserves and protects family unity and provides a pathway to citizenship for undocumented persons living in the United States. Even if you think your Representative is opposed to immigration reform, it is still important that they hear from you. With Representatives and Senators back home for the recess, it is very important for you to take action during this critical time period:
• Visit, call, or write your Representative and Senators;
• Write op-eds or letters to the editor in your local newspaper;
• Participate in a town hall meeting with your elected officials and voice your concerns.
Many advocates may remember the summer of 2007, when momentum around immigration reform dissipated over the August recess. To keep that from happening again, please take action before Labor Day. For resources including a new bulletin insert, visit www.seattlearchdiocese.org/jfi.
2013 Labor Day Statement
Bishop Stephen E. Blaire, Bishop of Stockton, Chairman of USCCB’s Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, reflects on rising economic inequality and issues a rousing call for everyone to work together to build a just economy in the 2013 Labor Day statement. See all USCCB's resources on work at the Labor and Employment page, and access the full statement in English and Spanish. Also check out the USCCB blog for reflections in coming weeks from various Church and community leaders about what labor means to them in the work they do.
Thank you for your Gospel witness,
Jim
