October is Data Collection Month

The US government has changed the way biographic data is collected. This has created confusion for some of us, when we need to complete biographic information for ourselves or our students. We hope to explain the change and clear any confusion.

The main change is that Ethnicity (Hispanic and non-Hispanic) has been separated from Race. You must first designate Ethnicity as Hispanic or non-Hispanic, then you designate your Race as one of Native American, Asian, Black, Pacific Islander, White, or Multiracial. For example, if you are Hispanic (or non-Hispanic), you could be in any of the Race categories, such as White, Black, or Multiracial.

In summary, when completing biographic data, you now designate Ethnicity separately from Race.
