Twenty four very energetic and committed pre-kindergarten to eighth grade religion teachers met last Wednesday to review the first draft of the Religion Curriculum. The teachers and principals traveled from far and wide across the Archdiocese to offer input to the curriculum standards, to offer helpful insights, and to create Power Standards for each of the essential concepts. This is no easy task; however, I wish I could have video-taped the interactions! Upbeat, ready to debate, and to listen to one another’s perspectives! I am honored to work with such a great group of teacher leaders.
Our plan? I have asked for a subcommittee from this group to offer additional edits at a January meeting. At the end of February, our big group convenes again for the next step which will include identifying curriculum resources and creating a revised glossary of terms. Our goal? Roll out the newly revised Religion Standards in June. I include the list of our teachers, as a thank-you and as a point of reference for your regional questions.
