Intro to Teaching SCRATCH to Your Elementary Students
April 3, 2014
8:30 am – 3:30 pm
Course #TM9415 – REGISTER NOW!
Instructor: Deborah Wrobel
Scratch is a programming language and online community where you can create your own interactive stories, games, and animations - and share your creations with others around the world! In the process of designing and programming Scratch projects, young people learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. To learn more about Scratch, check out the About Scratch page.
In this workshop, learn the basics of using SCRATCH in the classroom and give your students an opportunity to broaden their thinking with animation! SCRATCH is fantastic for a student's processing and sequencing skills. With our "digital natives", we find that keeping them engaged in learning is essential. SCRATCH gives them an opportunity to think, read, write, follow instructions, and plan - while supporting many common core skills.
Audience: Elementary level instructors, technology instructors, library/media, or anyone interested in projects with SCRATCH animation in the classroom.
Prerequisites: Participants should create their own free Scratch account (click on Join Scratch) prior to the class. We will use the lab's computers, but if you want to use your own laptop, have Scratch already installed on it. Link for the offline editor is HERE.
