The ELA Committee has met twice, and we have been wrestling with the far reaching impact of the six shifts of the ELA Curriculum. We are working to create grade level benchmark assessments that draw together and identify skills, content and knowledge in reading for information and writing. The benchmark assessment would include the informational text, prompt and rubric. Committee members have agreed to giving the assessment in their own classrooms, assessing the anchor papers with the rubric, and returning with papers in hand to share with colleagues. What did we learn? What could we do differently? How can we impact student learning through clarify of instruction and expectations? This work has implications for all content areas!
