The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is pleased to announce the Private Schools Annual Summer Conference and the Private Schools Response to Intervention (RtI) Conference. These conferences will offer excellent professional development opportunities to our private school educators in Washington State.
Both conferences are funded through the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act Title II, Part A Teacher and Principal Quality program. These conferences are complimentary to all educators employed by private schools approved by the State Board of Education. This memorandum provides information regarding conference schedules, content, registration procedures, and flyers for distribution to private school teachers.
Private Schools Summer Conference
The fifth annual Private Schools Summer Conference, in partnership with Seattle Pacific University’s Center for Professional Education and Gonzaga University’s School of Education, will provide educators with equitable participation services in state-level activities designed to improve teacher and principal quality. This is in addition to the services provided to private school educators through their local school districts.
This year’s Private Schools Summer Conference will offer three (3) two-day sessions on Effective Teaching Strategies to Implement Common Core State Standards. Each session will contain the same content and materials.
Response to Intervention (RtI) Conference
The final year of the OSPI commitment to train private school educators on the Response to Intervention model will focus on refining the implementation of RtI, specifically, effective use of data to target learning needs and improve instruction.
WestEd will provide the training for this two-day professional development conference.
Registration Process
Registration for both conferences will open on May 12, 2014. Registration for both conferences can be found on our Title II, Part A Private Schools website at http://www.k12.wa.us/TitleIIA/PrivateSchools/Conference.aspx.
Conference Meals
As of 2012, the Title II, Part A Office at the U.S. Department of Education no longer allows the use of federal funds to provide food and beverages at meetings or professional development training sessions.
Only a working lunch will be provided. We encourage all conference participants to be aware of these changes and to plan accordingly.
