• PowerSchool Consortium - Summer Training Dates

    Admin PS Training
PowerSchool training for Admin users will be August 4-5-6, at the Isaac Orr Room at the Chancery. If you have staff (or yourself) that would like to attend this training, please contact Steve Deibert directly. For those of you who have not been through this training, it is highly recommended. This training is designed to bring the new schools up to speed on using PowerSchool, but is useful for new staff at existing schools or anybody who feels they want a refresher. The cost of the 2 1/2 days is covered by consortium funds to support annual training for new personnel.

    The training sessions are:
August 4, morning - Basic functions, searching for students, student functions
August 4, afternoon - Student enrollment - school, classes
    August 5, morning - Attendance
August 5, afternoon - Working with staff records; Consortium Specific Customizations and processes
August 6, morning - Grading, storing grades, report cards, etc. (note - this is not teacher gradebook training, but what is involved on the admin side to make sure that grades are correctly stored in the system and report cards are printed)

There is no specific session for Wednesday afternoon, but I will plan to stay around and answer questions or work with schools that have questions.

Staff specifically involved in those processes should be at the sessions that apply to them. Any staff that will be using the admin portion of PowerSchool must at least attend the first day, so that they have an understanding of the interface. If there are sessions after that that do not apply to them, they do not need to be there. Any user needing full school rights must attend the entire 3 days.

We will start each morning at 9:00, as the building does not open until 8:30. Lunch time should be about 12:00 each day, and the afternoon session will start at 1:00 and be done by 4:00. There are many restaurants located around the Chancery so there are abundant options. Some parking is available under the building, and overflow parking is available in the Cabrini garage east of the Chancery.

If you have a laptop available to bring, that would be good as the training is hands on. The Office for Catholic Schools has a few MAC laptops that may be available, if you have need. Please let me know if you need one. In addition, if you have some spares that you could bring to assist, please let me know, that would be great.

    Please RSVP to me
with who will be attending from your school, and if they will be present for all sessions or only some, so necessary training materials can be prepared for each guest. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

    Gradebook PS Training
Additionally, a daylong gradebook training session will be offered on August 11, 2014, in the Isaac Orr Conference Room at the Chancery.

    This training is for:

    • Administrators who need to have a better understanding of the gradebook and how it works
    • New teachers to learn basic gradebook usage
    • Teacher leaders who have the responsibility of mentoring their staff on gradebook use
    • Teachers who have been tasked with representing their school on the report card group that Kristin Dixon and Sandy Smith have formed

In this day-long hands-on session, you will use a gradebook while learning how to apply nationally-recognized grading expert Ken O'Connor's 15 fixes in PowerTeacher Gradebook to support standard-based grading and student learning. Find out how both extra credit and penalties for late work can be detrimental, and how you can help teachers at your school use more effective grading practices.

NOTE: Each attendee would need to bring their own laptop (note, not iPads or Chromebooks, they can't run the full gradebook, which is needed for this class).

This session has a maximum of 35 attendees. If there is more demand, we will schedule additional sessions later in the school year.

Please RSVP to me with who will be attending from your school, necessary training materials can be prepared for each attendee.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
