I hope you enjoyed your summer and are feeling ready for the new school year. I know this is a busy time of year for everyone so I’ll keep the updates brief, but when you have a moment please take a look at the information below and let me know if you have any questions. I’ll be very active throughout the NW over the next few months and would love to connect with you when you have some time this fall. Please let me know if you would like to schedule a visit or call and we’ll get it on the calendar.
Here are the key things to know as we head back to school:
- The Switch to TI-84 Plus C Silver Edition – TI will no longer be making the greyscale version of the TI-84 as this model is the official replacement. So, parents need to know they may not see it on the shelf this year. We are trying to get the word out to all math teachers so they can update their syllabus. This model is lighter, has a re-chargeable battery, is backlit and of course has color display. Here is a link: http://education.ti.com/en/us/produc.../tabs/overview . Also, here is a link to a weekly drawing happening to win a class set of these so please spread the word as I’d love to see one go to someone in the NW: http://education.ti.com/en/us/promotions/ti-84c-upgrade . There are some really great deals out there right now on this model both in retail and online. In Seattle, I have seen the TI-84 Plus Silver Edition C for $90 at Target but check your Sunday ads and sales at retailers in your area to direct students to. Lastly, we have had a lot of requests for content which can be copied and pasted into BTS/Parent night letters. Whether you are using the TI-Nspire CX or TI-84 Plus Silver Edition C please see the attachment for content which will provide information on the technology parents are purchasing for their kids.
- Fall Workshop Coming to WA – I am excited to share we have a 1-day workshop coming to Renton, WA on November 8th. The topic is Implementing the Common Core Mathematical Practices with TI-Nspire™ Technology and here is the link for more details: http://education.ti.com/en/us/profes...workshops-2014 . Hope to see you there if you can make it!
- Free CCSS and State Standard Aligned Activities – We have a ton of free CCSS and State Standard activities which can be downloaded onto existing calculators and software. We are constantly adding these activities and they can be searched for and narrowed down in many ways (by state standards, by type of calculator, subject, subject area, topic, grade level etc.). Teacher and student notes are available and activities and content can be customized as well. Here is a link the activities page: http://education.ti.com/en/us/activity . Our CCSS site can be found here: http://ticommoncore.com/
- iPad App and Transition to TI-Nspire for Math and Science – Recently, we have seen an increased interest in our TI-Nspire handhelds (CX and CAS), Navigator System, teacher and student software as well as our Nspire iPad app. The ability to create a wirelessly integrated classroom experience and use this solution for both math and science has been a real point of interest for many in the teaching and learning community. If you would like to learn more about TI-Nspire or get a chance to see/try it in person please let me know and we’ll make the arrangements.
- Working with TI Technology Before Purchase – Trusting and understanding new education technology can be challenging, especially before an educator has had an opportunity to see and use it in person. This is why we are committed to getting the new technology in the hands of educators early on. My job is to help make this process as easy as possible so if there is an interest in seeing a demonstration or borrowing a class set of calculators please just let me know. Here is a link to our Workshop Loan Program as well: http://education.ti.com/en/us/educat...ut-the-program
- Grants and Funding – TI is committed to partnering with those who are interested in using grants and other sources of alternative funding to purchase their technology. If you would like to learn more about how we can help with this please let me know and I will get you more information.
- TI Technology Rewards Program (TRP) – We want to spread the word about redeeming points for every purchase to use for new technology or professional development. Have students bring in their points for every calculator and watch the points really pile up! Here’s the link for the TRP program: http://education.ti.com/en/us/educat...ut-the-program
- Other Fall Professional Development/Training – We have many options when it comes to learning how to use our technology to the fullest. Whether an educator prefers to take a advantage of our free online webinars or tutorials or if onsite training is desired it is my job to ensure they are getting what they need. Here is a link to our Professional Development site: http://education.ti.com/en/us/pd . To view the upcoming fall webinars schedule please visit: http://education.ti.com/en/us/pd/onl...rning/webinars .
- TI Graphing Calculators are Approved for Important Exams – To quickly see which exams a calculator is approved for or for free test preparation resources please visit: http://education.ti.com/en/us/soluti...!tab=test-prep
Again, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or needs and thank you for your interest in TI!
Best,
Brian
