The Diversified Learners Committee is growing in membership to develop regional leadership teams to promote and execute initiatives and goals to better serve our students and their families. We thank our school leaders and teachers for their willingness to serve. Resources vetted by the Diversified Learners Committee are located in the online DL Forum located here. We hope these resources can assist your school and parish community in this important area.
The draft Diversified Learners Committee Mission Statement: The DLC is a dynamic group of Principals, Teachers, and Parents whose work is intended to support students of varying ability and encourage their inclusion in Catholic School classrooms. Guided by an Executive Committee, the DLC was charged to articulate how living our mission to educate the whole child invites all to the table deepening our understanding that inclusion is a cornerstone of our beliefs. To fulfill this mission the DLC has focused its work on: 1. On-going Professional Development; 2. Regional support for teaching and learning; 3. Common resources to promote inclusion; 4. Actively including Diverse (exceptional) learners in Catholic Schools.
The DL Committee is working to develop stronger connections with Special Olympics of Washington. Special Olympics Get Into It consists of online resources that include lessons, activities, videos, athlete stories and supplemental materials. At the core of Get Into It are age-appropriate lessons designed to be taught in the context of class periods. Activities with ties to service learning are completed in a classroom or community setting, as part of a club, an afterschool activity or a community based event and include involvement with local Special Olympics Programs whenever possible. If you are interested in reviewing curriculum lessons and resources to promote empathy and diversity, consider the new K-12 Get Into It Curriculum at https://getintoit.specialolympics.org/
