The Air Force Association (AFA) is an independent, nonprofit, civilian organization that promotes public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of our nation. One of our roles is aerospace education. Within that role the AFA promotes math and science throughout the country by awarding our best math and science teachers for what they do in the classroom.
My name is Frank Cantwell and I am the Vice President of Aerospace Education for the Greater Seattle Chapter of Air Force Association. It is my responsibility to try to find the best math or science teacher in the Greater Seattle area and to reward that person. Before taking my current position of Elementary School principal, I had been a high school math and science teacher. I understand the difficulties of motivating our students to take higher level math and science courses. I am also very aware of the challenges of motivating them to work hard at these courses. We are looking for the teacher who does the best job at this.
The Seattle Chapter of the AFA would like to recognize a classroom teacher from the greater Seattle area who best exemplifies the outstanding teaching of science and/or math. The award is $500 and to be placed in a national competition where the teacher can win a trip to Washington D.C. and addition cash rewards up to $3,000.
The process is relatively simple. It requires a one page narrative of the teacher’s accomplishments and achievements in support of math and/or science and the
impact these activities have had on their students. Also, it requires a letter of recommendation from the teacher’s principal.
Please e-mail your applications to principal@hfseattle.org, or mail them to Frank Cantwell, Principal, Holy Family Parish School, 9615 20th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98106 before March 31, 2010. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to e-mail me.
Sincerely,
Francis X. Cantwell
