Registration: https://register.psesd.org/class_info.php?CID=36503
As educators strive to maximize students’ academic growth, one of the best tools available is explicit instruction which is a structured, systematic, and effective methodology for teaching academic skills. Explicit instruction exemplifies the idea that how well students learn depends on how well they’re taught.
This workshop will immerse practitioners in the theory and practice of designing and delivering instruction in a manner that is systematic, direct, engaging, and success oriented. Explicit instruction is for use in all instructional settings and with all types of skills, including Common Core.

Using an interactive, practice-driven training process, the training session prepares participants to immediately begin implementing the program.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) varies in the level of intensity depending on the context in which it is delivered. Principals must effectively lead their buildings and teams to implement PBIS at all levels from the most general, universal interventions to those that apply only to the very few and most intensive situations. PBIS strategies and interventions associated with Special Education services include highly specialized processes and procedures that must be followed with fidelity in order to move forward to effective implementation of skill instruction.
In this three part series participants will explore the requirements for making important decisions about the provision of special education services for students who demonstrate challenging behaviors. These three classes will include the evaluation process, functional behavior assessment and positive behavior intervention planning procedures, and common evidence-based practices designed to prevent and replace.
These courses will address decision making processes as well as rules and guidelines for suspension and expulsions as well as the manifestation determination process. These courses are designed for the school principal and/or district level administrator charged with leading school teams to make decisions about and serve children who demonstrate challenging behaviors and is appropriate for K-12.

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the conceptual and the operational aspects of this innovative approach to educating students in the least restrictive environment and discuss issues and concerns related to their own practices. The goal is to ensure that participants take their practice to the next level, designing instruction that fully utilizes the contributions of each professional so that all students reach their potential. Participants are encouraged to attend in teams which include general education, special education, ELL teacher and building administrators.
