MESSAGE TO OUR K - 12 PRINCIPALS ONLY: CHINA: The College Board and Hanban (Chinese language agency) have just announced the dates for the Chinese Bridge delegation June 21 -29 and posted information on line about the application process.
Application deadline: March 29. Application: Very brief, on-line application.
Principals can affiliate with the Superintendents Roundtable, if you wish, but please also affiliate yourself with Archdiocese of Seattle: Catholic Schools Department. When asked where you heard about the program, select “Superintendents Roundtable” so that Hanban understands you will be part of our delegation. Announcement and link to application available at: http://professionals.collegeboard.co...chinese/bridge
This is simply an application at this point –principals will not be asked for a reservation deposit until you have been selected as part of the delegation. However, you'll need to certify that your supervisor approves of your application. And you should IMMEDIATELY make sure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your return date (that is through the end of 2010). If you are at all interested in this, apply. There is nothing binding about the application; you can always withdraw. But believe me, if you have not been to China, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and your view of the world will be forever changed. Sincerely, James Harvey

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION: I have been working with Triangle Associates, and especially Christina Brinker, to look at their award-winning environmental education programs that help local school children develop ecological consciousness and make wise choices and see how our schools could participate fully. Triangle Associates design dynamic school assembly programs for agencies that ignite school-wide interest. They supplement assemblies with well-designed classroom workshops that enhance student learning. They also provide training and materials that motivate teachers to continue the discussion throughout the school year. Their initial focus was on recycling and waste reduction has expanded as new issues have emerged to include water quality, household hazardous waste, electrical safety, climate change, and renewable energy including geothermal power. Christina has organized resources by city and county information and has provided the educational links to programs your school can qualify to participate in fully. There are grants available for interested teachers to consider as they develop their comprehensive resources.
