The Catholic Schools Department and the Office of Catholic Faith Formation are looking forward to being with you during the afternoon of Monday, April 19th in the Isaac Orr Conference Room in the 910 Marion Chancery Building.
We will begin with prayer and a catered lunch at noon. After lunch we will provide an overview of the 10 Standards for Catholic Identity and discuss indicators for measuring these standards. We will conclude by 3:30 pm.
To help us prepare for our time together, the 10 Standards with the first draft of indicators is attached to this email. I would like you to share this material with other members of your department and those in campus ministry and ask them to contribute their ideas regarding possible indicators for each standard. I would also appreciate you emailing your proposed list of indicators to me by or before April 12th. This process will allow us to incorporate insights from those faculty you will be representing on April 12th.
Additionally, I would like each of you to email the following information about your department:
- A list of all those who teach religion or are involved in campus ministry with a brief bio of each person (e.g. educational background, years of teaching, catechist certification, etc.)
- A list of your school's religion classes with course descriptions and textbooks as well as supplemental resources used
- A description of how many semesters of religion are expected for each of your students, as well as what classes are required and which are electives
- Additionally a description of classes that may be offered for combined credit between religion and another academic area
- The percentage of non-Catholic students at your school and if there are any differences in what is expected of them regarding religion classes
- Any data regarding how you integrate religion with your campus ministry program and across other academic disciplines or extracurricular programs that you feel help extend faith formation in your school
To help continue our conversation beyond April 19th, I would also appreciate you marking your calendars to gather again on Monday, May 10th from 12 pm - 3:30 pm in the Isaac Orr Conference Room in the 910 Marion Chancery Building. We also would appreciate you looking at your school calendars for a possible inservice date for you and all those who teach religion at your school for either Friday, October 8th or 15th, 2010.
Thank you for all that you do to share our Catholic faith with our high school students. I am grateful for the opportunity to spend time with all of you and to start getting dates on our calendars to continue the conversation into the months and years ahead.
Blessings,
Anne
