SASI, Social Action Summer Institute - Registration costs increase June 1st! "Cherishing Creation - Called to the Common Good" is the theme of the 29th Annual SASI that offers a grounding in Catholic social teaching, biblical theology, the spirituality of social justice and practical parish skills. SASI will take place at the University of Portland, Sunday, July 19 - Thursday, July 23. Presenters include:

Detention Bed Mandate - The USCCB has created a one-page fact sheet and action alert on the Immigrant Detention Bed Mandate. Find out how Congress has forced the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to maintain a daily minimum of 34,000 immigrants detained, costing taxpayers $2 billion each year. The sheet includes suggestions for what can be done to address this situation.
From Nuclear Deterrence to Disarmament: Evolving Catholic Perspectives - In an event co-sponsored by USCCB, an expert panel will address the policy, religious, and ethical implications of nuclear capabilities. The discussion is especially timely since it coincides with the Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference and reflects on the major statements issued by the Holy See at the Vienna Conference about nuclear weapons last December. Speakers include Archbishop Bernardito C. Auza, permanent observer of the Holy See to the United Nations; Father J. Bryan Hehir, Harvard University and president of Catholic Charities in the Archdiocese of Boston; and Maryann Cusimano Love, Catholic University of America. This event will be live streamed. Catechetical Sunday 2015 Resources on Human Dignity: "Safeguardingthe Dignity of Every Human Person" is the theme of this year's Catechetical Sunday on September 20, 2015.
