Dear Catechetical Colleagues,
Our "Essential Concepts" this month are focused on the topic of Liturgical Resources: "Liturgical Symbols and Sacramentals." Once again, these concepts are also a timely reminder for the coming of Advent on November 29th. Advent is celebrated through many symbols, sacramental and devotions. Some of these include the Advent Wreath, the Jesse Tree, Posadas, and Simbang Gabi. Please open some of the links below for videos, activities, lesson plans and other resources to help you and your students prepare for this wonderful season!
We would like to highlight a great resource for this time of year: The 2016 Sourcebook for Sundays, Seasons and Weekdays from Liturgy Training Publications. This resource provides guidance regarding the liturgical elements so that communities can prepare liturgies rooted in the vision of the Second Vatican Council. The Sourcebook is organized to help you follow the liturgical calendar.
We are also drawing very close to the Jubilee Year of Mercy that opens on December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Please note the new app (featured below) from Our Sunday Visitor (OSV) that offers a rich treasury of resources to guide us through this special time. We will be routinely highlighting events around the Archdiocese, resources and current news related to the Year of Mercy. Be sure to check this section often!
St. Mary's Press is offering a great deal on Prayers by Heart: The Catholic Children's Prayer Book for the month of November. Order 25 copies, get 5 more free. Ordering information in linked below in the Archdiocesan News section of the newsletter.
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there will not be a newsletter for the week of the 30th. Wishing you all a blessed and thankful Thanksgiving spent with family and friends.
In Christ,
Anne
