Alliance for Catholic Education Announcement
As many of you are aware, the demographics in our Catholic schools are changing. English language learners are the fastest-growing student population in America and ACE is preparing teachers to meet the unique academic needs of these children through the English as a New Language (ENL) program. My hope is that you are able to encourage principals and teachers in your schools to take advantage of this program.
I would like to encourage you to pass along this brochure (see PDF below) to principals and teachers that you feel could benefit most from being part of the program. We would love to welcome your teachers and administrators into our next cohort. As a reminder, ENL’s mission is to ensure that English language learners are thriving in Catholic schools primarily through the development of teacher-leaders. Applications are open and can be found on the ENL website: enl.nd.edu. The application deadline is March 31st.
Second, our ENL team would be delighted to provide professional development to your school communities. Please see this document (Please PDF below) that outlines our half-day, full-day, and two-day professional development options.
Finally, I also wanted to remind you of two resources that ENL has designed to support teachers in the important work of helping English language learners thrive.
15 on the 15th is ENL’s webinar and video series that offers practical tips for teachers to use in their classrooms. The webinars and videos are free, concise, and applicable. New materials are released on the 15th of each month and are found on our website.
The English Oral Language Assessment (EOLA) is a cost effective oral language assessment that schools can purchase on Amazon for less than $80. The EOLA enables schools to assess their students’ oral language proficiency.
I hope that you find these tools helpful and I again encourage you to create in-house content experts by sending teachers through the ENL program. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can in any way support the important work you do.
All the best,
Katy Lichon, Ph.D.
