“God, come to my assistance. Lord make haste to help me.” Is not only how we begin the Liturgy of the Hours but it is a great prayer to have on our lips and hearts as we go about the many things we do each day. In the revised religion standards for the Archdiocese of Seattle both for Catholic Schools and Faith Formation a deliberate attempt was made to include an introduction to and familiarity with the Liturgy of the Hours. Attached please find a worship aid prepared by the Liturgy Office which could be used for a classroom or all school celebration of Morning Prayer for a feast day. “Side A” and “Side B” may be designated as either “boys” and “girls” or “men” and “women” or any other designation you deem appropriate. If you have any questions about the Liturgy of the Hours, please feel free to contact Andrew Casad, director of Liturgy for the Archdiocese of Seattle.
Both myself and the Liturgy Office would appreciate your feedback as we nurture among the school community this prayer of the whole Church. The selections made for the two essential musical elements, the hymn and the Gospel Canticle, may be changed as appropriate for each school through it would be a good pastoral practice to have a single selection for the Benedictus/Gospel Canticle/Canticle of Zechariah for use in all seasons and to draw the hymn from or choose one will become part of the known repertoire in other seasonally appropriate liturgical contexts. The copyright line is also left blank for you to fill in your parish or school’s license information.
Thank you for your work of educating our youth, forming them to fully conscious and active participation in the sacred liturgy by which we are imbued with the true Christian spirit. As we near the conclusion of the school year may the next few months renew your faith and lead you into a deeper encounter with the risen Lord.
