St. John School is excited to host Project GLAD® Tier I Training, a model of professional development dedicated to building academic language and literacy for all students including ESL students. It involves

    • A Two-Day Research and Theory Training where participants will have the opportunity to dialogue and learn with other professionals in the field about the research that supports the model.
    • A Four-Day Demonstration Lesson follows. The demonstration is a unique opportunity for teachers to observe students utilizing the strategies.

The participants will be supported by a Project GLAD® teacher and coach who will facilitate a deeper understanding of the strategies and their variations, and engage participants in meaningful conversations around the model. During the afternoons of the demonstration, participants will be able to start planning and preparing materials to use in their classrooms to effectively support application and implementation. Follow-up support is also an integral part of this process.

The Project GLAD® Tier I Training will be conducted by two Tier IV Consultants, including Sandie Floyd. Ms. Floyd is a career educator with over 35 years of educational experience and has provided Project GLAD® training to teachers for the past 10 years, in California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawai’i.

Clock hours will be available; Title IIA Funding eligible; limit of 24 participants.
