Dear Pastors and Principals:
As you know, according to the Archdiocesan School Policy (Management Section 5.1d), each year your school submits your calendar for the upcoming academic year. In previous years, your school has submitted a hard-copy version. This year, we are moving to a paper-free version that will be accessible to the CSD and to your fellow educators across the 73 schools (read-only version). I thank you in advance for engaging in implementing this new tool.
Please enter Principal Area and connect to the 2010-2011 Academic Calendar to begin using the online calendar tool. Every time you press the “save” button, your work is saved so you can modify your information as needed throughout the month of May. According to the Archdiocesan School Policy, calendars should be submitted by the end of May. Our department will consider the calendar “final” on May 31st, and then begin to harvest the information within the first two weeks in June.
My colleagues and I will be looking for a robust calendar that indicates rigorous student instruction. Layered over this should be opportunities for professional growth and faith formation. I hope this tool assists you in carefully thinking through the ministry of Catholic education to our students, their parents, and the necessary formation of our teachers. I will be reviewing these calendars by region with each of the assistant superintendents. Should questions arise, I will be contacting the principal of the school for clarification.
I do want to thank you for the seriousness of engaging in this important planning task and thank you for your ministry of leadership.
With every best wish and blessing I remain,
Yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Joseph J. Tyson
Auxiliary Bishop and Vicar General
Superintendent of Catholic Schools
