Greetings Fellow Ministers in Christ,
In response to reports of ICE enforcement and apprehension in certain cities in the U.S. over last weekend, the USCCB’s Justice for Immigrants campaign has created the following Know Your Rights resources:
· VIDEO: Know Your Rights with Immigration Enforcement Officers [English]
· VIDEO: Know Your Rights with Immigration Enforcement Officers [Spanish]
The videos are short reminders of important Know Your Rights points and they are not intended as legal advice. Rather, they are education and awareness materials to help remind people of their rights when encountering ICE. We urge all undocumented individuals to seek legal advice from a qualified immigration attorney or accredited representative.
Some additional resources on how to prepare for an encounter with immigration enforcement officers can be found here:
· Nine Ways to Protect Yourself from Raids and Enforcement Actions [English]
· Nine Ways to Protect Yourself from Raids and Enforcement Actions [Spanish]
· A collection of Resources from the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, Inc. (CLINIC)
Please share these resources in your community and with your networks. I have linked these videos and documents to our archdiocesan Immigrant & Refugee Ministry website. Please stay tuned for future events, resources, and updates.
Our archdiocese will continue to accompany our immigrant and refugee brothers and sisters. We welcome working together in supporting and lifting up immigrant and refugee voices at this time.
Thank you for the work you do every day.
