World Language/Bilingual Education Teacher Certification Summit

Cost: $30, which includes catered lunch and 7 free clock hours through OSPI

Description:

How can we best support World Language and Bilingual Educators throughout the life-cycle of a teacher, from recruitment to certification to continued professional development? How can colleges of education in our state and prospective new language teachers make sense of the new testing requirements and provisions for alternative route certification?

This will be an amazing day with participation by the Professional Educator Standards Board, Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction Certification Office and World Languages Program, Pacific Lutheran University, Western Washington University, and other teacher colleges.

Dr. Shuhan Wang from the National Foreign Language Center will be keynote speaker at lunchtime, speaking about "Teacher Certification: Addressing a National Shortage" and sharing highlights of the white paper being prepared from the National Foreign Language Teacher Certification Summit in December, 2009.

Note that this one-day summit will be held in conjunction with the WAFLT-COFLT Fall Conference at the Doubletree in SeaTac. Interested participants can attend just the summit on Thursday or plan to stay for the summit and the conference through Saturday!
