Delta Education is sponsoring two one-day FOSS Institutes on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, prior to the NSTA Area Conference in Kansas City, MO:
- Taking FOSS Outdoors K-8
- K-8 Notebooking
Each of these institutes will be facilitated by FOSS development staff from the Lawrence Hall of Science, University of California at Berkeley. Delta Education and your regional sales manager would like to invite you to attend one of these FOSS Institutes. These K-8 institutes will be designed for teachers, science resource teachers K-8, administrators, and FOSS consultants.
Taking FOSS Outdoors K-8 – during this exciting new workshop, we will model simple and effective strategies for using the schoolyard and the local outdoor environment when teaching FOSS and other outdoor curriculum from the Lawrence Hall of Science. Participants will experience first-hand, the power of opening the classroom door and stepping outside. Using the schoolyard is an extremely effective means to solidify, extend, and apply student classroom learning. We will discuss current research that documents this fact. In addition, you will receive resources and reflect on how the outdoors can serve as a resource to enhance your teaching and enrich your school community.
During the FOSS K-8 Notebook Workshop, we will model a FOSS lesson with a focus on using notebooks for formative assessment. You will explore notebook components, learn how to plan formative assessment opportunities, and consider analyzing student work to inform your teaching. Examples of strategies you can use to help students move their understanding further will be presented. Resources will be provided.
The Institute sessions will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. There is no charge to attend, but you must register in advance by fax or email. Delta Education will provide a continental breakfast and lunch. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and lodging. You will walk away with sample program materials and a FOSS tote bag.
Attached you will find a registration form. Feel free to share this invitation and registration form with other educators who may be interested in attending this exciting institute in Kansas City. A confirmation with workshop logistics will be sent to you once we receive your registration.
