• 2011 TCLP Host School Applications are Available

We are pleased to announce that applications for K-12 schools in the U.S. to host a Chinese or Arabic exchange teacher in the 2011 Teachers of Critical Languages Program are available at www.tclprogram.org. Applications, due on January 7, 2011, are welcomed from public and private schools of any level from K-12 in the nation. Candidates are encouraged to articulate their visions for their foreign language programs, and TCLP staff welcomes comments and questions.
TCLP, a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is designed to expand schools’ abilities to teach Chinese and Arabic, placing experienced EFL teachers from China and Egypt in American K-12 schools for an academic year where they teach Mandarin or Arabic language and culture. TCLP is an integrated and well-designed program, providing participants with structured benefits to facilitate the development of host schools' critical language programs:
    • supporting teachers’ living expenses, health care, r/t airfare, on-going and extensive methodological training, and professional development funds.
    • host schools have access to real-time $5,000 grants to support language-learning projects and their designated mentors receive monthly honoraria.
    • TCLP staff maintains regular communication with participating teachers and schools, conducts in-person school visits, and provides on-going program support.
We also welcome you to read more about the exciting first month of teaching this year’s Chinese and Arabic exchange teachers completed in September, in the Chinese Teacher Highlights and the Arabic Teacher Highlights! Already the 2010 TCLP teachers have reached over 1,550 American students in their 26 placements that are spread out across 19 states. We are very excited for the upcoming year, and we look forward to keeping you up to date on the wonderful progress of this year’s teachers.
Please contact us with any questions or comments at tclp@americancouncils.org, or by phone at 202-833-7522.
    With best regards,
    TCLP Staff
