• Curriculum and Data News - January 18

    January 18, 2011

    Dear Principals,

Thank you for your positive feedback from our time together on Thursday at Palisades. I have posted our CSD Tech Presentation on the Principals Forum if you would like to refer to the guide as your study the emerging data tools.

    Social Networking Status:
Eric Downing, CSD Marketing Specialist, represents us (CSD and Fulcrum) on the social networking committee here at the Chancery. The committee was working hard to open up this conversation in light of the real need to interface with our parent community, alums, etc. This archdiocesan committee is currently on hold because of the transition of the Office of the Archbishop. Until this committee begins again, the “current” archdiocesan policies on social networking are found through the Safe Environment Policies within the Human Resources Department. Sometimes it is a bit hard to find information, so I am including the links within my mailing today.

There are two links for your easy reference regarding current safe environment policies that include the “Electronic/Online Conduct” which then includes social networking.

    1) Code of Professional Conduct for Church Personnel document - It’s a 2 page PDF which can be folded into a 4-page paper document- look at page 4. Here is the link to the Code: http://www.seattlearchdiocese.org/As...onduct2009.pdf

    2) Safe Environment Program Church Personnel Agreement form – This is the sign-off form we have school personnel sign and place in their personnel files. The 2nd compliance sign-off box states “Code of Professional Conduct for Church Personnel Agreement” which refers to the social networking portion of the conversation. I have attached this as a PDF and here is the link: http://www.seattlearchdiocese.org/As...84_SignOff.pdf

Many of our schools have felt a need to move into social networking and Eric Downing has been a great resource to principals who feel they need to be an “early adopter” before our policies adjust and change to reflect the social networking need within the electronic communications policy. The CSD realizes that this is a very legitimate delivery method to communicate with shareholders so we are hoping the committee work will start up again very soon. We will keep you informed with our progress.

A Message from Anni McKinnon, webmaster at the Archdiocese of Seattle:
“If you have any references or links to seattlearch.org on your school website we would be grateful if your webmaster could change the links to www.seattlearchdiocese.org as all content has been migrated from the old site to the new one. Thank you for your help.”

An invitation….. We recognize that the CSD data tools can be a bit overwhelming so Nack, Carl and I would like to offer a monthly invitation for you and/or your delegate. We are starting “Tech Tuesday” an informal gathering the first Tuesday of the month where we host 5 - 8 school leaders here at the CSD for lunch in a box and then tech time – noon to 2 p.m. ish. If interested, please just email Nack to confirm your spot at CSD@seattlearch.org and we will try our hardest at hosting! First come, first serve! Please just bring your laptop and any questions you might have - remember, free parking in P-1. First monthly CSD Tech Tuesday will be Tuesday, February, 1st.

    Respectfully submitted,
    Sandra Barton Smith
