Dear Forest Ridge Community:
We are pleased to inform you that Forest Ridge has been authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School, Diploma Programme and may begin teaching this program at the start of the 2011-2012 academic year this coming fall.
We are thrilled with this news and excited about the fact that Forest Ridge is only the 18th school in the state of Washington and just the fifth high school in the Puget Sound area to be recognized as an IB World School and is the only Catholic, private school in the state to achieve this designation.
Our high school faculty has always been committed to teaching to a global standard that has allowed our graduates to embrace their professional dreams anywhere in the world. We are very grateful to the dedicated high school faculty for their continuous commitment and willingness to always put our students first.
We hope that the Forest Ridge Community shares our excitement and pride with this momentous step forward into the future of our institution. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme supports the global initiative for which Forest Ridge School of the Sacred Heart – and indeed, the Sacred Heart Network of Schools – is widely known.
The IB Programme designation and this exciting path we have chosen for our school (and the future of our students) are important because IB further legitimizes the curriculum already in place at Forest Ridge. Our students work very hard and our academics are rigorous; the IB Programme will give them a distinction as graduates of an independent school that counts Women as Global Leaders among its strategic initiatives; the IB Curriculum Framework further supports our FR tradition of educating global citizens who participate in a rigorous college preparatory program that is recognized worldwide.
We will continue on this journey in the weeks and months to come and we will keep you informed every step of the way. Our faculty will continue to participate in the IBO’s rigorous staff development and our students and parents will have the chance to gather for more in-depth conversations. As with all that we do, these and other opportunities will always be framed by the Goals and Criteria that make a Sacred Heart education stand out.
We are working to provide in-depth information on the Forest Ridge IB Programme in our publications and on our Web site, as well as to continue with our IB FYI electronic newsletter, which has been so helpful in communicating our activities over the last several months. In the meantime, more immediate information may be found by clicking here to visit the IBO Web site and reading the General Regulations, Diploma Programme.
Again, we extend our gratitude to the faculty of the high school for their support, their commitment and their professionalism.
Gratefully,
Mark & Carola
