April 27, 2011 4:30-7:30 pm
Tacoma Central Administration Building 4th Floor Auditorium,
601 S. 8th, Tacoma, WA 98405
Cost: No charge.
Clock Hours: 3 free Clock Hours available from OSPI
Presenter: Dr. Michele Anciaux Aoki, World Languages Program Supervisor,
Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction
In July, 2010, OSPI officially adopted the national Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century as our state’s K-12 World Language Learning Standards: http://www.k12.wa.us/WorldLanguages/...s/default.aspx .
But what does it mean to teach to standards? What about assessment and grading?
This workshop will provide an overview of World Languages Standards: Content Standards, Performance Standards, Proficiency Standards, and Program Standards. Then we'll look a closer at how standards can inform teaching and learning, assessment, and yes... grading. Teachers who attend this workshop will be invited to join the LinguaFolio Online Professional Learning Community and receive access (at no cost) to a LinguaFolio Online account for themselves (and, potentially, their students).
Teachers in Tacoma have supplied some specific questions that I will attempt to address in this workshop:

Teachers in Tacoma have supplied some specific questions that I will attempt to address in this workshop:
- How do we grade for cultural and oral activities using the national and state standards?
- How do we clarify the difference between standards based grading and standards based assessment?
- Is it okay to give a cumulative exam? What are the competencies the state feels are more helpful and foundational?
- What does a really great world language rubric and assignment look like?
