• Archdiocesan Teacher Monthly Newsletter - April 2011

    Dear Teachers,

Please help us celebrate our good news for Bishop Joseph Tyson, the new Bishop-designate of the Diocese of Yakima. Congratulations!

NCEA CONVENTION begins Tuesday, April 26th and we honor 3 representatives from our Archdiocese!

2010-2011 NCEA DISTINGUISHED PRINCIPAL AWARD: Each fall, the superintendent of schools in each arch/diocese in the country is invited to nominate one principal from the arch/diocese for this award. From these nominees, twelve principals are selected each year to receive the award at the NCEA Convention. These twelve principals are chosen by members of the Department of Elementary Schools Executive Committee (DESEC). Congratulations to Kristin Dixon, principal of Our Lady of Guadalupe School, West Seattle!

2010-2011 NCEA DISTINGUISHED TEACHER AWARD: This annual award, presented by the NCEA Department of Elementary Schools, was established in honor of Sister Miriam Joseph Farrell, PBVM, who served as executive secretary of the Department until her illness and death in 1970. Nationally prominent in education, Sister Miriam Joseph was appointed by President Johnson to the President's Title II Advisory Commission. Earlier she served as supervisor of elementary schools for the Archdiocese of San Francisco, as director of education for her religious community, and as teacher and principal of elementary schools. The award was established in her honor in 1981 and is presented to one teacher in each of the twelve geographic regions into which the department divides the country. The department acknowledges that in honoring these twelve teachers each year, it also honors the tens of thousands of outstanding teachers in all Catholic elementary schools. Congratulations to Deborah Werner, teacher at St. Catherine School, Seattle!
