Secondary Mathematics
Seattle University/ PESD/ SPS are working together to offer an
Endorsement Academy
The Secondary Level Mathematics Endorsement is 20 credit post-baccalaureate program that will allow certified teachers to complete the required courses for an endorsement in one academic year plus part of a summer. Teachers must be observed teaching a successful secondary mathematics lesson and pass the WEST-E before they may be endorsed. Targeted WEST-E test date is April 2012.
Classes will begin June, 2011. Additional classes will be held at Cleveland (SPS STEM School) on Tuesdays & Thursdays from 4:30 to 8:00 during the school year.
Teachers will be given a chance to apply for one of the 25 slots in this program. All teachers will be required to complete a formative assessment in Secondary Mathematics and sign a contract that includes a plan of study and commitment to the program.
The cost of this Endorsement Academy is $4,500. The PESB will provide all teachers $3,000 in retooling funds. (All requests for retooling funds must be completed at one of the two informational sessions) Retooling funds require you to teach secondary math for two years upon completion of the program or the funds need to be repaid. We are working to see if we can find a not-for-profit that may help defer some of remaining costs. The cost of new books/materials is $700.
If you are interested please plan on attending the informational meeting held at Puget Sound Educational Service District – 800 Oaksdale Avenue S.W in Renton
At 5:00 on Thursday, May 19th
The “Plan of Study”, course dates, formative assessment discussion, and retooling application will be covered during these meetings. A $100 check is required to begin the registration process.
